How Much Does It Cost to Install Landscape Curbing?
Landscape curbing helps define your flower beds and other landscaping features. Similar to the curbing you find at the road’s edge, landscaping curbing is rounded on the edge. It can be made of a variety of materials, including concrete, brick, metal, wood and plastic.
Angi (formerly Angie’s List) estimates that it costs between $705 and $1,700 for the average landscape curbing installation. The national average is $1,195. Of course, the price varies quite a bit depending on the material you use.
Concrete curbing
Concrete curbing is the most expensive, but it’s also the most durable. You won’t have to replace this curbing in the foreseeable future. Angi estimates the cost of pre-formed concrete blocks to be $2 to $3 per square foot. These blocks join together, but may pop out over time, and the seam may become a place for weeds to grow.
You can also opt to have continuous concrete curbing poured directly on-site. This type of curbing is more expensive than blocks. According to Angi, you can expect to pay between $4 and $5 per square foot for materials. Since this job isn’t suitable for a DIY project, you’ll also need to budget for labor costs.
Brick curbing
Bricks offer a more traditional Old World look than concrete. However, bricks, like concrete blocks, have a seam that could become a place for weeds to sprout. They also can move around somewhat as the ground freezes and thaws. Brick curbing can cost you anywhere from $4 to $15 per square foot. If you want someone else to install them, add additional funds to your budget for labor.
Wood curbing
Wooden timber curbing offers a more casual look than concrete or brick landscape curbing. This product comes in lengths with split wooden pieces of varying heights that sit perpendicular to the ground. It’s easy to install yourself. However, wood timber curbing can deteriorate over time and will need to be replaced in five to seven years.
The cost of your landscape curbing project depends on the type of curbing material you choose and whether you opt to install it yourself or have a landscaping company install it for you.
